And answers that are actually honest. Refreshing, we know.
Getting started
How do I get my own AskThat link?
Go to askthat.pages.dev, type any username and tap Create. You land on your dashboard which shows your shareable link — that is it. Share the link anywhere and people can send you anonymous messages instantly.
Do I need to sign up or create an account?
No. Zero accounts. No email, no password, no phone number. Pick a username and you are done. Your dashboard URL is your access key — bookmark it and do not lose it.
How do I access my dashboard?
Go to askthat.pages.dev/dashboard/yourusername — replace "yourusername" with your chosen name. There is no login, so the URL is your access key. Bookmark it on your phone the moment you create your link.
Can two people use the same username?
Yes — any username creates its own inbox. Messages go to whoever owns that link. Use something unique to you so people know it is actually your link and not someone else's.
Anonymity and privacy
Is it really anonymous?
Yes, for real. We do not store any information that links a message to the person who sent it. No sender identity is logged. The platform is architecturally designed so that even if you asked us very nicely, we could not tell you who sent what.
Can the person find out who I am?
Not through AskThat. We do not reveal sender identity. The laws of logic still apply though — if you are the only person who knows a certain fact and you include it in your message, clever people will figure it out.
What data does AskThat store?
Only the message text and timestamp — and they expire in 48 hours. No email, no phone, no device ID, no IP address stored against messages. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
Does AskThat show ads or sell data?
No and no. No ads, no data selling, no tracking. We built AskThat because we wanted it to exist — not to harvest your attention or contacts.
Messages and inbox
Why do messages expire after 48 hours?
Privacy first — the less we store, the less there is to worry about. It also means your inbox stays fresh and relevant. Share your link often to keep messages flowing.
Can I delete a message before it expires?
Yes. Every message has a delete button in your dashboard. Click it and it is gone permanently — no backup copy kept.
How many messages can I receive?
Up to 100 active messages at any time. Since messages expire every 48 hours this cap is very rarely hit in practice.
Someone sent me something horrible. What do I do?
Delete it — your inbox, your rules. Our filters catch most abuse automatically. If you receive something that constitutes a genuine threat or harassment, email us at safety@askthat.pages.dev with details. Take it seriously if you feel unsafe.
Sharing messages
How do I share a message to WhatsApp or Instagram?
In your dashboard, tap the share icon on any message card. A quick-share panel slides out with buttons for WhatsApp, Twitter, Telegram, Discord, and a copy option — no full-screen required. For a poster-style story card (sized for Instagram Stories and WhatsApp Status), tap the poster icon instead.
What is the story poster for?
The poster is a full 1080×1920 image with the message styled on a branded background — perfect for Instagram Stories or WhatsApp Status. Story viewers see your AskThat link at the bottom and curiosity does the rest. It is the fastest way to get more messages.
Why would I share a message publicly?
Sharing a good message is the most effective way to get more messages. People see your story, notice the link, get curious about what others are saying about you, and send one themselves. It is a very satisfying loop.
Polls
What are polls?
Polls let you ask your audience multiple-choice questions alongside the anonymous message box. Visitors to your link can vote anonymously — you see the aggregated results in your dashboard. Great for "how do you describe me?" or "how well do you know me?" style questions.
How do I set up a poll?
Open your dashboard and tap the 📊 Poll button in the top navigation. Add up to 3 questions, each with up to 4 options, enable the poll and save. Your ask page will show a Poll tab alongside the message box automatically.
Can I make my page poll-only (no message box)?
Yes. In the Poll settings, enable the "Poll only" toggle. This hides the message box entirely — visitors see just the poll. Useful if you want feedback on a specific question without open-ended messages.
Technical
Does AskThat work on mobile?
Yes — mobile first. All pages are fully responsive. Story sharing works best on Chrome for Android and Safari on iPhone since those support the Web Share API with files.
Is there a rate limit on sending messages?
Yes, but you will not notice it unless you are trying to send hundreds of messages per minute — in which case you should probably go outside. Limits exist purely to prevent spam bots.
Where is my data stored?
AskThat runs on Cloudflare's global edge network. Messages are stored in Cloudflare KV, distributed across Cloudflare's global infrastructure. There is no single server — requests hit the nearest Cloudflare location to you.
